THE PUCCINI FESTIVAL

The Puccini Festival is an opera event that takes place every summer in Torre del lago, where Giacomo Puccini lived for over thirty years, composing many of his masterpieces.

Inaugurated in 1930, every summer in July and August, this prestigious festival stages Puccini's operas, as well as prose and ballet, with the participation of world-famous artists.

Since 2008 the event has been held in the "Gran Teatro Giacomo Puccini", the most important open-air structure in Tuscany, with 3400 seats. In the background, Lake Massaciuccoli creates a magical setting that, on warm summer evenings, involves the spectator in a spell of music, lights and scents.

Near the theatre you can visit Villa Puccini, now a museum, the house the composer built in 1900, where he lived and composed for over 30 years. The villa houses the composer's mortal remains and exhibits and memorabilia from his personal life and artistic career. The house where he was born, which is also a museum, can be visited in the historic centre of Lucca. Reference sites: https://www.puccinifestival.it/ and https://www.puccinimuseum.org/

A curiosity, the Hotel Liù owes its name to Foscolo Biagioni's passion for the composer from Lucca; Liù is in fact a fascinating character in the opera Turandot.
