PIETRASANTA

Also known as "The Little Athens", Pietrasanta is a historic town nestled at the foot of the Apuan Alps, now a popular destination for celebrities visiting Versilia  and wishing to combine social life with culture.

It owes its growing popularity to its artistic vocation since the days when Michelangelo went there to choose the finest marble for his works. The Carrara marble quarries are in fact not far away and historically the chosen blocks, together with those from the Versilia quarries themselves, were transported by sea via the port of Forte dei Marmi. Over time, foundries for bronze casting and workshops for working terracotta and artistic mosaics have also sprung up, making this small town more and more universally known and appreciated and a strong pole of attraction for many young artists from all over the world.

In recent decades, great contemporary masters such as Botero, Igor Mitoraj, Joan Mirò, Jean Michel Folon, Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, Kan Yasuda and others have lived or stayed here, donating some of their works to the town.

Every summer, Piazza Duomo and the streets of the characteristic town centre come alive with exhibitions, events and cultural performances. Bars, restaurants, art galleries and shops compete in a virtuous contest of artistic creativity, becoming a point of attraction for many tourists and visitors.

There are many places of interest to visit, including the Museo dei Bozzetti http://www.museodeibozzetti.it/. It is also possible to give expression to one's creative vein by enrolling in courses and workshops; if you want to know more, visit the Fondazione Centro Arti Visive Pietrasanta https://www.cavpietrasanta.it/
